How to Clean Scratched CDs with Toothpaste
November 26th, 2007 by Cheng Chen

Scratched CD - Before and AfterThere’s hundreds of methods and ways to clean scratched or damaged CDs. They include mass cleaning with machines, simply wiping, using special cleaning solutions, etc. However, the most effective, quick, and cheap way is to use the age-old toothpaste method. Yup! Toothpaste! Here’s how to fix and save scratched CDs:

  1. First, wash the scratched or damaged CD.
  2. Rub some traditional toothpaste (toothpaste that contains Baking Soda, not the jell kind) onto the CD.
  3. Spread the toothpaste with your fingers around the whole CD.
  4. Gently rub the CD surface with the toothpaste for a reasonable amount of time (less than 2 minutes).
  5. Let the CD sit for a reasonable amount of time (less than 5 minutes).
  6. Wash the toothpaste off of the CD using non-hot, temperate rinsing water.
  7. Finally, dry the CD with a smooth cloth or tissue.
  8. Voila, the CD that won’t play will play once again!

hi just want to say it never worked a banana does work cut a banana and apply it onto the CD from the center to outside or from outside to center then get a banana peel and wipe it down from the white side of the peel then get a smooth CD cloth (they cost £4.00 or $3.00) and wipe it down. a single cloth will cost 80p or 67 cents. GET A PACKET OF WIPES NOT SINGLE! if the cd is not scratched and has another coating put it in your console that you play it with if it doesn’t work scrub it again with moderate pressure if it still doesn’t work do the process all over again this time get glass cleaner and wipe the whole banana residue off and there we go your new cd

The best way to prepare the litle guys is to make a small incision at the top of the head near the soft spot(this will allow water to enter the body) then plop the little bugger in a pot of boiling water. Boil for about 5 minutes. when finished simply squeeze and all the now softend inside will exit through the earlier made iincision. Mmmmmmmmmmmmmm
